Frequently Asked Questions

  • DeWitt E-Free is committed to the simple truths that Christians have believed down through the ages since the time of Jesus. Our full Statement of Faith can be reviewed here but, simply stated, our foundational teachings are:

    • The Bible: We believe that Scripture alone is the word of God and is authoritative for what we believe and do.

    • The Grace of God: We believe that salvation from the penalty of sin is provided by the mercy and grace of God, in Jesus Christ alone, through His death on the cross and his bodily resurrection.

    • The Responsibility of Man: We believe that man is unable to save himself by good deeds and must respond to God’s gracious provision of salvation through faith alone in the work of Jesus Christ to save him from the penalty of sin.

    • The Purpose of Humanity: We believe that every created thing has one purpose and that is to worship God alone. We were each created to “reflect the magnificence of God.

  • The short answer is “yes” but the long answer is that we are part of the Evangelical Free Churches of America which is more of “an association of local churches joined together in bonds of love for the purpose of developing and carrying on ministries which are most effectively accomplished by mutual cooperation.”

“Evangelical” refers to our commitment to “the inerrancy and authority of the Bible and the essentials of the gospel.”

“Free” refers to our affirmation that each local church has a right “to govern its own affairs with a spirit of interdependency with other churches.”

  • Our Savior came not to be served, but to seek and to save the lost (Luke 19:10). In the same way, God has called those who hold authority in our church to be servant-leaders. Our church is led by a board of elders, deacons, and pastoral staff. Though they serve in different roles, together they lead the church body and make decisions on behalf of our congregation. The congregation also votes on certain choices and leadership changes as part of their role in sharing in major decisions.

  • Everyone is welcome to come and worship at DeWitt E-Free!  It is our goal for each person to feel at home. We try not to put any of our guests on the spot (such as by having them stand and introduce themselves to the whole church) or make them do anything that makes them uncomfortable. It is our humble opinion we are the end of your search for a friendly, local church.

  • We embrace a blended service in which we enjoy more contemporary music mixed with traditional hymns and songs of praise. We have no agenda regarding styles of singing praise, but we do seek to worship God in a manner in which we demonstrate His worthiness and glory. It is our desire to engage not only our emotions but also our minds, in order that the service should be God-centered, not man-centered. Our sole purpose is to worship the One who not only created us, but also redeemed us through the person of Jesus Christ.

  • How many people have felt out of place because they did not walk into a church with a dress or a tie on? The only clothes that impress God are the white robes of Christ’s righteousness (Rev. 7:9). Come as you are, just come!

  • We offer a membership class once or twice a year for those who would be interested in learning more about our church. The primary requirement is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We also require that our members hold to the tenants of orthodox Christianity. For more information, please call the church office.
