“Preparation of the Cross”

The religious leaders sought to kill Jesus. Matthew tells us, “and [the chief priests and the elders] plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. But they said, ‘Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people’ ” (Matt 26:4-5). And so they prepared for the events that would lead to the cross.

But Peter tells us that God prepared the way to the cross before the foundation of the world. Jesus was foreknown as the Lamb who would purchase us with his precious blood from eternity past, but he “was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you.”

This season, we remember our Lord’s death and resurrection by examining his “Preparation of the Cross.”
