Our Core Values

Everyone treasures something. We discover certain values in life that we hold closer to ourselves than other ideals and desires. Those values which we treasure most become the driving force behind the things we do, say, and think. At DEFC, we seek to reflect the magnificence of God by knowing Christ and making him known. Within this mission that has Christ at its core, we treasure six core values which define the culture of our church; they define our identity as a group of believers.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt 6:19-21).

  • We treasure the Holy Bible as the inspired, inerrant, relevant word of God, and the final authority for belief and behavior (2 Tim 2:15; 3:16-17; Ps 19:7-11; 2 Pet 1:2-4).

Therefore, it is our objective to:

    • Clearly present the truth of Scripture through accurate teaching.
    • Communicate the message of God’s word through expository preaching.
    • Develop in people a thirst for God’s word and teach them how to study the Bible.
    • Demonstrate the Bible’s contemporary relevance and encourage individuals to allow it to impact their lives.
  • We treasure prayer as the delightful opportunity given by God as a means to communicate and develop an intimate relationship with him as our sovereign King and heavenly Father (Ps 5:3; Matt 7:7-11; Luke 18:1; Eph 6:18; Phil 4:6-7; Heb 4:16; 13:17; James 5:13-18).

Therefore, it is our objective to:

    • Engage in prayer individually, declaring our love and adoration, confessing our sin, thanking him, and making requests; knowing that God will answer in ways that glorify Himself and bless us.
    • Rely on God through prayer in the conception, planning, and implementation of ministries, programs, and activities.
    • Pray for our church leaders so that their authority will continue in submission to the Holy Spirit’s leadership.
  • We treasure worship as our direct expression that God alone is supreme (Ps 95:6-7; Ps 96; Isa 29:13; John 4:20-24; Rom 12:1-2; Heb 12:28-29).

Therefore, it is our objective to:

    • Exalt God in every part of our services as we engage one another in cherishing and honoring Christ corporately.
    • Instruct and encourage people to cultivate an intimate relationship with Christ by the development of spiritual disciplines in their lives.
    • Present music that artistically and creatively expresses God’s worth to him in praise as we lead the people of God to a greater appreciation of his magnificence.
  • We treasure obedience as the joint work of the believer and the Holy Spirit which is motivated by grace, love, and God’s passion for holiness and results in believers being conformed to the image of Christ (John 14:22-26; Rom 6:14; 8:28-30; 12:1-2; 1 Cor 2:9-10; Eph 5:18-21; Phil 2:13; Col 3:16-17; 1 Pet 1:13-16).

Therefore, it is our objective to:

    • Be filled with the Holy Spirit by submitting to his direction and guidance found in the Bible.
    • Graciously and humbly point one another to God’s promises and commandments so that we may experience lives filled with joy.
    • Encourage one another to serve Christ from hearts of love and gratitude rather than guilt and condemnation.
  • We treasure the family as the first institution created by God to reflect his magnificence where God’s word is taught and lived out and the first place where disciples are made (Gen 2:18-25; Deut 6:4-7; Eph 5:18 – 6:4; 2 Tim 1:5).

Therefore, it is our objective to:

    • Build up biblical marriages where husbands and wives give of themselves daily and put their spouse before themselves.
    • Help parent(s) teach and train their children for a lifetime of service to God and living for His glory.
    • Serve families who have encountered a variety of life’s complications and encourage each person as individuals who have been created in the image of God.
  • We treasure community as the place where biblical unity and oneness manifests itself through the sharing of life together (Acts 2:42; Rom 14:19; 15:7; 1 Cor 1:10; Eph 4).

Therefore, it is our objective to:

    • Engage in caring relationships in which we seek to love one another, encourage one another, forgive one another, admonish one another, serve one another, and bear one another’s burdens.
    • Equip believers to understand and use their spiritual gifts for the glory of God and the edification of the church body.
    • Provide frequent opportunities to become involved in the church community through ministry programs, small groups, Bible studies, and activities that encourage the church to share life with one another.
