Block 101
Bible
Study #2
Why
do I need a small group?
I need a small group to hold me accountable in
Bible Reading and Memorization.
Read:
Colossians 2:6 and 7. Questions to
consider:
- How did we receive Christ?
- What
are the implications of walking in Christ in the same way that we received Him?
- What
does it mean to be rooted and built up in Him? How does this happen?
- What
does a believer look like that is “established in the faith”?
- Why
is thanksgiving important to growing in Christ?
- What
place does the Bible have in fulfilling Colossians 2:6,7?
THERE
ARE 2 MAJOR REASONS FOR BEING IN GOD’S WORD DAILY:
- For growth and nourishment
(what do these verses say about how we grow)
Read:
I Peter 2:2; Psalm 119:102; Jeremiah 15:16; Hebrews 5:12-14
- For Vital Companionship with Christ
(what do the following verses say about companionship with Christ?)
Read:
I
Corinthians 1:9; John 15:4; Micah 6:8; Psalm 16:11)
The
Bible Challenge
During the time between the next 2
sessions of the Cell Block, we would like you to commit to reading the word
every day, marking the word and writing something down that was important in
what you read. Also we will introduce verses to work on to memorize.
- Choose a book of the bible to read.
If you are already in the habit of reading each day, you may continue your
reading. If you are not choose a book. Let me suggest a gospel, Mark; or a
epistle, James; or in the old testament, Ruth or I Samuel. - 2.
Read
as much as you want each day but choose just a couple of chapters to “mark” as
you read. Underline what you think are the main thoughts,
circle important words, Put in parenthesis things that most hit you. Put
Question marks by things you might have questions about. Make up your own
system! Here is a short passage. Take
time to mark up in the Cell Block time this evening. Take about 5 min. and then
a couple of minutes to share thoughts.
2 Timothy 4:1-8
English Standard Version (ESV)
2 Timothy 4
Preach the Word
1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus,
who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2preach
the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort,
with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when
people will not endure sound[a] teaching,
but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit
their own passions, 4and will turn away from listening to the truth
and wander off into myths. 5As for you, always be sober-minded,
endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.6For
I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure
has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith. 8Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown
of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that
Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
- Write down your thoughts on the
scripture daily. Write down what impressed you as you
read God’s word and use the journal attached. Be ready to share your thoughts
from one entry with the small group when we meet next time.
- 4.
Bible
Memory. Getting God’s word into our minds and hearts is very
important and there is no way to do this without taking time to memorize God’s
Word. We will be using the Gospel Wheel
used in our Awana program to learn 5 verses in our Cell Blocks. Attached you
will find a copy of the Gospel wheel and the verses. We also will have “packets”
available with the verses on cards. Starting at the next session we will take a
few minutes in the beginning of the cell block to help each other recite as
many verses as we have memorized.
Next
Week: We will be looking at the importance of prayer in a
Cell Block.
Note:
Copies of the Journal and the Gospel Wheel will be provided in the hard copies
of the Cell Group Study # 2 but will not be found on the website versions. If
you are reading this on the website and would like copies for your own study
and memorization, please contact us by email and we will send you copies.
